She's Kicking!

I began to feel Baby’s kick much more. What began as a ‘flutter’ has now turned out to be a mini work out for her in my womb. I was warned by my gynecologist that as the baby grows, her kick will get stronger. As Mad Cat and I were praying for her last night, she just kept kicking and kicking. Until of course, Mad Cat said I bored her with my long winded prayer. But I was enjoying that moment, with me praying and her kicking inside as if she knows God’s presence was among us. I prayed that God will minister upon her even at this tender age and that she will grow to know Him. Last night was not the first time ever she kicked during my prayer time. I had experienced her kicking once before when I was praying one night. That night I felt God’s presence and joy as I was praying with one hand lifted up and the other on my tummy ( I guess that’s why my prayer was long winded because secretly I didn’t want the moment to end ). As Jesus said “ Let the children come to me, do not hinder them, f...

Baby Girl

Image
I had a detailed scan of Baby on its twentieth week. It was a 4D scan where it was done at the government side instead of the private side. I chose a semi private hospital for the following reasons:- 1) its cheaper than private hospitals; 2) I get a single room at an affordable price; 3) I get the same services as I would have gotten in a private hospital; 4) Its near my house which I am currently staying; and 5) There are better equipments in a semi private hospital (especially at the government side). The 4D machine was bought very recently by the hospital and the scanning was done by a professional radiologist. Mad Cat and I took a whole day leave to have the ultrasound done in the morning and later in the afternoon to have another check up with my gynecologist. I packed a book while Mad Cat brought along his lap top in anticipation of a long wait for the scanning to be done in a government hospital (things can be really really slow when dealing with public sector). We were at the h...

Lina Joy

I recognize the name not because I studied it, but because I have read in the papers about her and for some time during Sunday morning when the liturgist of my church requested all members to pray for her. I can only associate the name with a legal trial in Malaysia on the freedom of religion and no more other details are in my record book. Strangely enough, I rarely hear of anyone speaking about her or the details of her story. Even then, her name would be briefly mentioned and then quickly brushed aside, just like any other chat we would have about any trivial national news in the papers. I do not know the full account of her story but I do know that she is appealing in the Federal Court, the highest court in the Malaysian Judiciary System, for her freedom in religion until I did a little research on my own regarding Lina Joy. In a nutshell, Lina Joy is a Malay and under the Malaysian Federal Constitution, a Malay is defined as someone who practices Islam. She converted to Christiani...

Baby M

Someone I know gave birth to a healthy baby girl in May. Today Baby M will be about 2 or 3 months plus. Not long after her birth, they discovered that her skull had closed up too soon for her brain to develop further. By closing too soon, the brain will force itself into any empty spaces the brain can find in the skull to develop and grow. And as a result, Baby M can go blind, deaf and a possibility of disfigurement and retardation. As a mother to be myself, I can feel the pain my cousin and her family is going through. The child you carry in your womb and now is in your hands may never have a normal childhood as you have anticipated it to be. Doctors who treated Baby M had suggested for a surgery that may cost close to RM80,000.00. The surgery will ‘open’ up Baby M’s skull while plates will be placed to hold the ‘opening’ to allow room for the brain to grow. But the side effects will be that Baby M will lose her eyesight, hearing and may be mute. Baby M was flown to Melbourne, Austral...

Unchurched but Faithful

The title was taken from an article which I read on line. I once had this question in my mind. Can one be faithful yet not want to have anything to do with any church? I have met people like that and I have known people to be like that. And at one point of my life, I wanted to de-church. The author defined the church to mean “to be with Christ is to be related to His people. The first relationship defines the second relationship” I quite agree with the definition. This was also evident in the Bible where Jesus was in constant fellowship with His disciples even until the night before His arrest. The author raised an issue…is the relationship with one another (not with God) healthy? People do not want to de-church because they do not need God but because their needs are not met. But I would like to side track this article a little. I have been to church as long as I can remember. My mother took me to Sunday School even before I started schooling. As I got older, I graduated from class t...
